The Berlin wall was a nearly 12 foot tall 27-mile long wall the stretched across Berlin in the mid to late 1900s. The wall started as a fence but was soon made into the mighty wall that we all know of. The Berlin wall was built in 1961 and split the communist East from the capitalist west. The Wall was built by the Soviet union to keep capitalism out. The bordered was patrolled by border guards who would shoot and kill anyone who tried to cross the wall. The east was very poor and had very little food, so many of the people from the east tried to cross to the west where they were rich and had plenty of food. The west was controlled by 3 nations being France, The United States, and Great Britain. The Wall was taken down in November of 1991.
